Present work by Camagüey’s author at the International Book Fair of Havana

Camagüey, Cuba, Jan. 29.- The memoirs “Cuban broadcasters for unity in the Americas,” by Camagüey writer and researcher Oscar Ramón Viñas Ortiz is among the novelties of the 29th Havana International Book Fair, 2020 (
February 6 to 16), by the publisher En Vivo, of the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television.

The work of the president of the Camagüey subsidiary of Radio, Cinema and Television of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) is a compilation of testimonies, arisen in the scientific meetings of the locution, sponsored, among others by the artistic avant-garde on the island and searches in periodicals.

With a preface by the prestigious announcer Edel Morales Borroto, the text is a yearning that has become the reality of the more than four thousand Cuban speakers who “have been waiting for years, even without knowing who would be the author. For a long time we have maintained uncertainty in details of the history of this profession that allows us to use the power of speech over millions of listeners worldwide. ”

As Morales says, Oscar Ramón Viñas delved into institutional and personal historical libraries and archives since he began working at the Provincial Directorate of Radio in his hometown.

The author of the books The radio in Camagüey, shows with scientific evidence the “only way to find the truth.”

Morales in the prologue describes Viñas’ text as “a valuable instrument that will allow us to know details, many of them previously unpublished, of the steps that our ancestors took to try to achieve the unity of action of the professionals of the word in America, for the defense of our interests as a guild ”.

In “Cuban broadcasters for unity in the Americas,” readers will be able to know even the smallest details of the efforts to create a College of Broadcasters that groups all of them in Cuba, which was finally constituted by the First National Congress held in in 1947, in the city of Camagüey itself, as a tribute to those pioneers for unity.
