Cuban president condemns new measure by the US government

Havana, Cuba, Oct 24.- Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, President of the Republic of Cuba, today condemned the new measure of the North American government aimed at preventing the sending of remittances from that country to the largest of the Antilles.

The United States insists on harming the Cuban family with a new measure against remittances. Perverse intentions of the imperial government that discredits and ridicules him for his sick hatred against a small nation whose heroic people do not surrender, the president said on Twitter.

This Friday, the US State Department announced that the scope of certain general authorizations related to remittances to the Caribbean country is eliminated, which impacts the company Fincimex SA, which was officially included in the List of Restricted Cuban Entities of the State Department, the last June 12.

By virtue of these changes, shipments through FINCIMEX and American International Services (AIS) would be disabled. The prohibition takes effect on November 26 of this year, 30 days after publication in the Federal Register.

Already in September 2019, the Trump administration reduced the number of remittances that Cuban-Americans send to their relatives in Cuba by imposing a ceiling of $ 1,000 per quarter on the remittances that a person can send from that country to Cuba, and eliminated the authorization by which it was possible to process financial transactions ‘U-turn’.

With the update, the list now includes more than 200 entities and sub-entities of the largest of the Antilles, including companies, public limited companies, the Mariel Special Development Zone, and the ministries of the Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Interior, as well as also the National Revolutionary Police and other entities.

This group of entities vetoed for Americans is part of the many actions that the Republican administration took since coming to power in January 2017 to reverse the rapprochement initiated between the two countries during the previous executive. (ACN).
