190 of the COVID-19 cases diagnosed in Camagüey this year are discharged from the clinic

Camagüey, Cuba, Jan 23.- After receiving the corresponding treatment for being positive for the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, 190 of the 291 Camagüey’s patients infected with the pathogen in 2021 were discharged from hospitals and centers enabled in this city to support assistance work in the face of the pandemic.

Alfredo Leal Gutiérrez, head of the Program for Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI) and Tuberculosis, explained to the press that this number of discharges -at the close of today at noon- represents 65.3 percent of the cases diagnosed with COVID-19 in the current year.

In accordance with the protocols established since the beginning of the incidence of the dangerous disease in Cuba, those who have already been discharged should spend 15 days under surveillance in their homes, until a negative result is obtained in the PCR test (Polymerase chain reaction).

So far, 285 patients from the provinces of Camagüey and Ciego de Ávila remain in hospital and other institutions equipped for medical care, 80 of them residents of the neighboring territory, reported the specialist in Hygiene and Epidemiology in a television appearance.

Of that total number of admitted, 166 are confirmed, 97 of which are from Camagüey, in addition to another 24 being under observation, the doctor explained.

The previous day, 806 cases of ARI were identified, mainly from active research in the community, which covered 47.1 percent of the population, especially in the provincial capital, currently in a phase of limited autochthonous transmission, he referred.

In national reference laboratories, 12,224 PCR samples have been processed since the beginning of the current year, of which only 636 corresponded to the previous day, and thus three COVID-19 patients were notified.

Leal Gutiérrez specified that the new cases receive medical assistance in units in Havana, as two of them are health collaborators in Venezuela, and the other is a 21 year old who obtained a positive result in the PCR test carried out before traveling. abroad from the Cuban capital.

Faced with the increase in infections, the municipality of Najasa regressed to the phase of limited autochthonous transmission, while that of Esmeralda advanced to the third stage of post-pandemic recovery, as announced in the last session of the Provincial Defense Council.
