Food donated by friendly nations will begin to be distributed today in Cuba

Havana, Cuba, Jul 30.- The gradual and free delivery to the Cuban population of food sent by friendly nations will begin today in several municipalities, on a day in which the arrival of new donations of food and medical supplies to face the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact of the North American blockade.

Through La Lisa, in the capital, the distribution of the module consisting mainly of rice, grains, pasta and sugar will begin, which will be received throughout Cuba by the more than 3.8 million households registered in the Consumer Registry Offices , as Betsy Díaz Velázquez, Minister of Internal Trade, announced on Wednesday.

Consulted by the Cuban News Agency, Humberto Cardoso, director of the Commerce Company in Havana, specified that the first deliveries will be made in 18 warehouses in that town, a task in which their workers will have the support of organizations and factors of the neighborhood especially to take the donation to their homes to vulnerable people.

Also starting today, Friday, the residents of 15 of the 18 Popular Councils of the municipality of Pinar del Río will benefit, by composition of the nucleus, with the delivery of canned corned beef, and those of the entire province of Cienfuegos with a pound of oil per nucleus, although this process will now begin in the mountainous town of Cumanayagua, according to Cuban television.

Local media highlight the transparency in the operations of the port-transport-internal economy chain, the security and protection in the warehouses where the valuable cargo is kept as a result of international solidarity; and the agility and organization in the prompt dispatch, in the preparation of the modules and in the transportation of these and other foods that some territories will receive on time.

Today at 7:00 p.m. at the Informative Round Table the head of the Ministry will offer more details of the important process, which in social networks, on the street and in many other spaces has been very well received by the population, with tokens of appreciation to the countries that, at this crucial hour for Cuba, are helping it with food, medicine and other necessary supplies.

Rodrigo Malmierca, Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, said on Thursday that while the United States government intensifies the economic, commercial and financial blockade against the Caribbean nation, it continues to receive solidarity aid from various nations of the world.

In his official profile on Twitter, Malmierca highlighted that donations from Venezuela and Russia have already arrived in our country, and new arrivals from Mexico, Nicaragua, Bolivia and China are announced. We are not alone, stressed the official.

Bolivia, Mexico and Nicaragua sent donations to Cuba and spearheaded solidarity actions in Latin America with the Cuban people, while from Russia last Sunday two aircraft arrived in Havana with 88 tons of food and protective equipment, including one million medical masks.
